Well it seems that my desire to ride my bike is getting in the way of my knee recovering back to normal use. My efforts at Catamount threw my progress back about 4 weeks, and my knee hurts as bad as it ever did.
So, in an effort to be a smart person, I have decided to take a voluntary leave of absence, where I will not even swing a leg over a bike. I’m going to see how I feel in a week. At the moment, I can’t even really bend my knee without having some level of searing pain under my patella. Walking, getting in or out of my car, pushing in the clutch pedal, and even sitting on the toilet are all very difficult now.
I have to have knees that work if I plan on actually riding at SSWC09. And did I also mention that I was going to also do the VT 50 again this year? The 50 is the next weekend following SSWC. It is going to be a busy September.
I have mentally made peace with my time off. I have to do this. I’m going to use this time to do some of the other things that often get brushed aside when the weather is nice, like, clean and organize the garage, fix the trim that I ripped out when I drove Mandy’s bike into the garage, and maybe even deal with the enormous colony of spiders that live in our entryway. The list is long…
I’m also going to keep putting together sick bikes. Here is yesterday’s, an XL RIP9 in Raw.
It’s a new frame with old parts, and the customer is very stoked to see how this thing compares to his old bike.

You know what I’ve been through with my broken propeller. All kinds of problems with it today. I can’t even ride anymore without hobbling around for a week afterwards. The beginning of arthritis is setting in. My only options at this point is a replacement of the joint. =(
Not happy because I will have to have several of these ops if I remain active into my retirement years. Today’s bionic knees have come a long ways and last a long time if you’re not out constantly pounding on them.
What does all of this have to do with you? You’re on the correct course for recovery. Take the time to let it heal properly. You’re too young to have problems that could possibly extend into you’re later years if not dealt with properly now.
Heal quick my friend.

Thanks Sherp. The hardest part for me is that the engine is in pretty good shape, I just have a temperamental piston. It feels better every day, but I still have a long way to go. Gonna apply the 3 I’s, ice, ibuprofen and IPA.
