That is what I call this month.
It is a month of spentness and lethargy brought on by a season of big bike rides and races. Some of them fun, some of them grueling, but all of them tucked under the belt as some sort of a training effort. For what? Well, I did not do The 50 this year, which as it happens, was one of the driest in recent memory. I was told by more than one person that I would have absolutely killed it this year.
That’s just great.
The days are getting shorter, the weather less awesome, and the trails are becoming more and more obscured with fallen leaves. I always have a tough time with this time of year. We still have nice warm days, but it is hard to get out there and get it done. It’s like you see the inevitability of winter, and you just sort of loose motivation.
It’s really easy for me to affect a “why bother” attitude, but I am going to try and make a concerted effort to get out there and enjoy riding our trails at a recreational pace before they are inundated with snow for the next couple of months. This means walking climbs on my singlespeed if I don’t feel like riding them, or, using my (gasp!) little chainring on my geared bike. With the exception of the XX equipped Jet, I’ve kept it in the middle ring all season, no matter how hard it hurt. I’m so over that now.
It’s time to get out there and enjoy it for what it is.
