31 March 2010 - 6:59Incoming – New Tires from Michelin

Got a few, sweet new tires on the way.

First to arrive is the new Michelin Wild Race’r  2.1. This is a low tread, mid volume tire that appears to be suitable for dry and or hardpacked terrain. I’m actually going to throw a couple of these on Kermit to see how they are, and move the Wolverines over to Mr. Furley. They weigh+/-700g. It seems a little heavy for a tire named “Race’r”, but then the speedy Conti Race King is not that light either (650g). It does look as though it would be a fast tire, so maybe that is where they are coming up with the moniker.

The tread pattern is similar, although a little tighter than the Geax Saguaro, which is another tire that I’ve been wanting to try out. Similar in weight and volume too. Unfortunately, I, along with Geax, am out of these tires until late April, so any would-be tire buyers might consider the Race’r  as a substitute. With weekend temperatures “supposed” to get up to the 70s, I plan on riding my bike in the woods somewhere.

Comments:

  1. Seems like an interesting tire. It is also inexpensive. I will be really happy to hear your comments about it. If the tire is good for your Vermont trails, it should be the same for ours in Québec!

Could you include casing measurements in your review?

    Thanks a lot.

  2. Interested to see what your take on these will be. Geax Saguaro TNT’s get their weight from the re-inforced sidewalls. That is a blessing and a curse. Blessing from the standpoint of sidewall survival in rocks, curse due to the lack of suppleness affecting the ride feel and to some extent grip and rolling resistance at pressures similar to your normals. (Lowering pressure helps)

Where’s the “beef” in these Michelins? Overall just heavy or…..? Tubelessness?
