This is an odd time of year for us in New England. If the weather gets nice, people come out of their homes and do errands, go out to lunch etc. If the weather is crappy, then everyone stays put. Last week, we were blessed with warm sunny days, this week, cold horizontal rain.
I was really busy fixing bikes and helping out customers in the shop last week, it’s totally dead now. I’m not saying that I don’t have anything to do though. I’ve got that big display cabinet I’m finishing up, and I’ve quietly been adding to the online catalog.
Now it is time to see some of the new stuff I am offering in our Wheelset department. Folks that cruise the catalog see all the cool handbuilt wheelsets we sell, but there has been a mostly empty category called “PreBuilt“. I’ve added a couple of wheelsets to this category as I’ve been able.
I’m happy to say that the American Classic wheelset is back. It used to be one of our more popular items, and its back with a vengeance. The new wheels are tubeless ready, have a fancy red anodized hub, a steel reinforced aluminum driveshell, and some pretty smart looking graphics.
I just got my first set of Crank Brothers Cobalt 29er wheels. Thing things are super awesome. Again, these are tubeless ready, and come with the cool Crank Bros Split Lever skewer. They promise to be as light, stiff and strong as they are dead sexy.
And over on the handbuilt side of things, I have finally made the Bike 29 Industry 9 Classic wheelset available. It’s the same smooth rolling hubs and instantly engaging driveshell as the more expensive premium wheel, but with a standard spoke flange, allowing me to lace them up to any rim using any of the spoke types we use. These are starting to sell just as quickly as our venerable Royale wheels.
I’m going to be adding yet more wheels in both categories over the next few weeks. There is going to be some very cool stuff coming.

Hey are there any weight restrictions on those Crank bros 9er wheels?

Not that I know of, but as they are billed as an XC wheelset, I’d say that prudence is required. 225lb XC racers wouldn’t be a problem, 260lb riders might want a different wheelset.
