9 November 2008 - 13:33Project Jabberwocky III

Welcome to the third and final post on this project. As we left it last week, we were in need of some wheels. We chose a soon to be offered version of the Bike 29 Royale SS wheelset. Basically, we use the King hubs, with a Stan’s ZTR 355 rim, and DT Super Comp spokes. Obviously, we went with red hubs to match our King headset and ……oh, wait, what’s this, could it be?

That’s right. That’s a King bottom bracket. Boo-ya.

Feedback from some of the followers of this blog was carefully considered. The underlying theme was “more carbon”. Ask and ye shall receive. We used a Salsa Pro Moto 11° bar, and an Easton EC70 seatpost for the carbon fix. I was also kind enough to donate one of my prized (and brand new) Boone Ti cogs, which I think pretty much covers the request for Ti. Tooth count is 20.

The cranks are XTR with a 32t Spot chainring (with fancy red bolts), the chain is a PC-890, Easton EA90 stem, WTB Deva saddle, and the stopping power comes from Avid’s Juicy Ultimate (185/160). Kenda Karma 1.9 tires keep things glued to the ground.

I still need to shorten the brake lines, as I wanted to be sure that the fit was correct first. Weight as pictured is 19.6 lbs. All in all, I think it came out pretty good. Look for a ride report soon.

  1. Drool.

That Boone Ti cog is gorgeous. As I understand it from the Boone Ti website, they are now making chainrings again, but no longer make cogs. Pity!

  2. Yes, I would like to trade my karate monkey in for this!
